In my opinion there are three main aspects needed to play a great round of golf. You need to make sure you spend enough time practicing, have the correct mental attitude and also ensure your golf clubs have been correctly fitted. If you ignore any of these three factors then you really cannot expect to improve as a golfer.
Club fitting is very important and cannot be stressed enough. Many golfers ignore this simple task and prefer to buy expensive brand name equipment instead. It takes less than an hour for a professional club fitter to test and take measurements so that a set of fitted clubs can be built. I am sure you can find an hour to go through this process, the results will be well worth it! When your clubs do not fit you correctly then you will have to make compensations in your golf swing. These compensations will set you off on a course that is very hard to correct later on!
Practice is very important and I have found that hitting golf balls at home with a net is one of the easiest ways to make sure you keep your golf swing consistent. You can buy golf nets in most decent golf stores or on the internet. This will enable you to get enough regular practice and allow your swing to slowly improve.
The mental aspect is a lot harder to get right, that will only come with time, and, when your confidence reaches a certain level. There are books and DVD’s on this subject to help you focus in the right areas.
When all three come together you will find yourself playing much better golf, you will hit the ball straighter and further as your consistency will improve. Ignore any of the three and you will spend years struggling and progress will be illusive.
Golf is like chess, very easy to learn, but takes years to master!
